Health and Wellness Tips

Chinese wellness tea is not complicated, but it is specific. The three botanicals we blend most — Dendrobium, Polygonatum and Pu'er — were chosen for how they behave in a daily cup, not for how they sound on a label. Here is what each one is, and how to drink them well.

Dendrobium officinale (Tie Pi Shi Hu)

Dendrobium is the stem of an orchid grown on rock and tree in Yunnan's mountains. In traditional use it is considered cooling and moistening — the reason it is often paired with warmer teas rather than drunk alone. Expect a clean, faintly sweet liquor with almost no bitterness, which is why it blends so well with Pu'er and black tea.

Polygonatum (Solomon's Seal / Huang Jing)

Polygonatum is a rhizome, and it tastes like one: earthy, lightly sweet, with a texture in the cup that softens the astringency of black tea. In traditional terms it is a tonic — the ingredient people reach for when they want a tea that feels like food. It is also why our blends taste rounder than a plain leaf tea.

Pu'er tea

Pu'er is a fermented tea from Yunnan and is the one most people can actually feel: dark, smooth, and famously good after a heavy meal. Ripe (shou) Pu'er is the mellower style — earthy rather than sharp — and is the base of our Pu'er wellness blend.

Osmanthus, daidai flower and rose

These are the aromatics. Osmanthus brings a soft apricot-like sweetness to white tea, daidai (bitter orange) blossom adds a citrus edge, and rose gives black tea its perfume. All three are organic-certified, like everything else in the box.

How to build a daily tea ritual

  1. Morning or after lunch: black tea with Dendrobium and rose — fuller body, works well after a meal.
  2. Afternoon: white tea with osmanthus — light, floral, low caffeine.
  3. Evening or after dinner: ripe Pu'er with Dendrobium and Polygonatum — warm, smooth and the easiest to drink late.

Brewing: 95 °C water, one bag per cup, 3–5 minutes. Warm the cup first if you can; the aroma compounds in osmanthus and rose are the first thing cold porcelain kills. Every bag also brews cold — leave it in water overnight in the fridge.
